FOR TEENS AND PARENTS
The adolescent years (middle school to college years) can be ones of turmoil for many children and families. Families can often have a difficult time navigating this period in their lives and often need help in guiding their children through these turbulent times. Over the past fourteen years, I have worked with teenagers in numerous settings such as community clinics, teen shelters, residential treatment facilities, schools, and a drug and alcohol outpatient programs. I work with families to help develop a close, connected relationship with their children to guide them to success while also learning how to set limits and negotiate responsibilities. Many teens have a hard time expressing themselves to their parents and advocating what they want. I often help them negotiate more freedom while also taking on and dealing with the added responsibility that comes with those freedoms.

ISSUES TREATED IN INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY THERAPY: |
Families are the greatest support system for their children, so I work with families as a resource to find a solution for their children's mental health problems. I meet with the whole family for the first session in order to learn what the problem is and what resources are available. The family can include whomever is important in the teen's life and whomever interacts with them regularly. Sometimes there are conflicts that don't make it possible for everyone to be in the room; so please make these relationships known to me so we work together on deciding who would be the best to invite into the process. After the initial session, I work with the teen and their family around how to structure the rest of the therapy. The rest of the sessions may be meeting with the teen alone, a combination of meeting with the teen alone and with other the important people in their life, and/or meetings with just the important people in the teen's life. The structure of the therapy will be decided collaboratively and will depend on the best approach for creating a situation for success.
