EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED COUPLES THERAPY
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) is an evidence based, effective treatment for couples. EFT has been found to show significant improvement in 88% of couples treated with EFT and with 70-73% of couples moving from distress to recovery in an average of 20 sessions. It is also the only couples therapy approach that is based in a theory of love. In EFT, it is believed that loving relationships are created when we have a secure attachment with our partner, feeling that our partner is responsive, and that we feel love, accepted, and respected. When we feel the other is responsive, we feel as though we can turn to our partner to talk about our bad day, that thing they just said that upset us, the sex life, the finances, or anything else.
Many couples that come to see me have been to couples therapy before without success, but find the EFT approach to both capture the issues that are occurring, as well as providing a way to change the patterns to develop a closer, more loving relationship. In addition to the success I see with clients, I also see many therapists who learn EFT, who may have been practicing couples therapy for many years, find their success with clients jumps when providing Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT).
I have been using EFT in my work with couples since 2006, was certified in the the approach in 2014, became one of the 14 certified supervisors in EFT in the Bay Area in 2015, and have been teaching EFT to therapists for the past two years in my Integrated Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy workshops.
To make an appointment for an assessment and/or discuss recommendations for treatment, call (415) 686-9544 or email [email protected] I have offices in San Francisco and Corte Madera and provide phone and/or web sessions for clients who can not come to the office.
